JOBS
Job creation is the direct and natural outcome of each of my policy positions. The single answer to our many challenges is a four-letter word – J O B S! The reason I say job creation is the result of each of my policy positions is because by reducing the scope and cost of the federal government individuals and their creative energy are unleashed to do what they do best. We CAN have a more effective and efficient government and at a lower cost to the American taxpayer!
Tax Policy – There must be a method to fund the constitutional functions of the federal government. We all agree there is proper function and cost for the federal government. But high taxes are stifling job creation by small businesses. Small businesses are the backbone of our economy. More economic freedom and private job creation is the answer to so many of today’s problems. The IRS code is difficult to understand and comply with. If you ask the same question to 10 different IRS “help experts” you get 10 different answers. The experts can’t even agree on the correct answer to everyday tax questions that individuals and businesses have to live with. Businesses don’t spend money on creating new jobs because they’re concerned with the tax implications of doing so. It is made worse when the federal government starts this tax credit program and that tax credit program. If giving a tax credit to a business or individual is such a great idea then why don’t we simply leave those dollars in the hands of those businesses and individuals to start with? You would like to keep more of your hard earned dollars, right?
In this time of economic transformation and crisis, we must be good stewards of this economy more than ever before. We must restore fiscal responsibility so that we do not mortgage our children’s future on a mountain of debt. We must reform our tax code.
Energy
We need to begin to harvest our Country’s natural resources and it needs to begin immediately in order to achieve domestic energy independence. Some will tell us that we must choose between the environment and energy. I reject those as our only 2 options. We can and will have both. The fact is that there will be drilling off the coast of Florida. Cuba has contracted with China to drill and the process is beginning. So the question of drilling has already been answered. The next question is who has more of an interest in protecting our environment than we do? No One! Who has the best and safest technology to harvest our natural resources, oil and natural gas, than we do? No One! As if that weren’t enough reason we have the additional reason of the number of high-tech and good-paying jobs that will be created by beginning to explore and harvest those resources. Doing so will also begin to wean our Country off the dependency of foreign oil that we must buy from countries that are not our friends. Concurrently with this exploration we can provide incentives to energy companies to develop the technologies that will provide our energy of the future – solar, wind, nuclear, hydro, fuel cell, etc. Domestic energy independence is a matter of both national security as well as economic security.
Healthcare
The American people understand that good health is the foundation of individual achievement and economic prosperity. Ensuring access to quality and affordable health care for every single American is essential and within the realm of Congressional Constitutional authority. Here are 4 points to achieve that goal –
Expand access to Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) – it has an immediate economic benefit to everyone and no cost to the taxpayers.
Extend to individuals the same tax benefit that companies get when they purchase health insurance. Another immediate economic benefit for everyone. Again, no cost to the taxpayers.
Eliminate the barriers to purchasing health insurance across state lines. Increases competition and is accomplished at no cost to taxpayers.
Find and eliminate fraud, waste and abuse within the current system. This will result in a savings to taxpayers and can also be used to fund the program for those who truly need assistance. The net result is a savings to taxpayers.
